Romulus and Remus were twin brothers in Roman mythology, said to be the founders of Rome. They were born to Rhea Silvia, a vestal virgin, and were abandoned in a basket on the Tiber River. They were found and nursed by a she-wolf and later raised by a shepherd. As adults, they decided to build a city, but disagreement over where to build it led to conflict. Romulus killed Remus and went on to found the city of Rome, naming it after himself.
