Design your own game controller
Travel through 3 eras of computing:
- Era of Machines and Analog Computers
- Era of Electrons and Circuits
- Era of Digital Computers and Virtual Worlds
You will design your own controller using simple materials you can find around you. It can be B-Made scrap material, off-cuts from a machine shop, paper, paperclips, kitchen utensils, anything you can get your hands on.
-
Using simple sensors (WHICH SENSORS?) and mechanisms you will combine your objects into ‘senseable assemblies’, devices which can report their state to an electronic system.
-
With the help of small and cheap arduino boards, you will be able to collect your device’s data, connect it to your laptop via USB, and make your Operating System treat it like any other Input device, keyboard, mouse, joystick, etc
-
You will use your weird controller to move a virtual character in real-time through a virtual world of your design.
For all of these steps we will give you enough material to get started, and will be there to discuss your ideas and guide you.
